Jamison II is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

  • In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Duhamel Subsector of Theta Borealis Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Jamison II has a solitary primary star.

  • It is a blue-white main sequence named Jamison Prime.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.

  • It lies within the zones warmer inner H+ region
  • It receives higher levels of stellar energy.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Jamison II is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Jamison II has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Jamison II has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.

  • Much of the surface is an arid, hostile environment.

Satellites:[edit]

Jamison II retains a relatively large, relatively close vacuum moon.

  • It orbits once every few weeks.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

  • Locally, detailed maps may be available.
  • Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
  • Detailed survey data commands premium prices.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Primitive native life occupying a number of ecological niches. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Jamison II is a somewhat backward, rather underdeveloped world that has been partially occupied by a planetoid-state of Verstand.

  • The occupation forces have been "invited in" by an association of weaker family clans.
  • The occupation is being resisted by Free Settlers.
  • The resources of the system are being exploited.

There is little activity within the system.

  • Commercial traffic is infrequent: ships only occasionally visit.
  • Commo regularly picks up signals and private chatter. Communications are in Riftian Anglic.
  • A commercial navigation beacon may be active.
  • A vessel or two may be operating among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.

Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.

  • Verified updated data is constantly sought.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Jamison II has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

World Demographics (P)[edit]

Jamison II has a population of 6 million.

  • Around 2 million are under the rule of an association of Clans loyal to a planetoid-state of Verstand.
  • There are approximately 4 million Free Settlers, belonging to one of several large family Clans, who lay claim the world.

Urbanization[edit]

A few large urban centers are surrounded by smaller satellite communities.

  • Inhabited areas are dotted across the world.
  • Much of the surface of the world remains as wilderness.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Jamison II possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.

World Government (G)[edit]

Jamison II has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

World Military[edit]

Approximately 20,000 personnel.

  • Large numbers of Clan warriors support local standing armies.
  • Regions under the control of Verstand are policed by offworld forces.

World Law (L)[edit]

Jamison II has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 8 (moderate)
  • Labor: 5 (hundreds of thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 1 (extremely limited)
  • Efficiency: -2 (fair)

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: -3 (very unimportant)

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: 7 (discordant)
  • Acceptance: 3 (xenophobic)
  • Strangeness: 6 (very distinct)
  • Symbols: 7 (somewhat concrete)
